Bengals WR Chris Henry dies from injuries following domestic dispute

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Cincinnati Bengals receiver Chris Henry has died, one day after falling out of the back of a pickup truck in what authorities described as a domestic dispute with his fiancee.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said Henry died at 6:36 a.m. Thursday. Henry was 26.

Henry was rushed to the hospital Wednesday after being found on a residential road. Police said the dispute began at a home about a half-mile away, and Henry jumped into the bed of the pickup truck as his fiancee was driving away from the residence.

Police said at some point when she was driving, Henry “came out of the back of the vehicle.” They wouldn’t identify the woman, and no charges were immediately filed.

Police spokeswoman Rosalyn Harrington said homicide detectives have been assigned to the case but had no further information. Police have not released the 911 tapes, and Harrington wouldn’t say if the woman was present at the scene when police arrived.

Henry is engaged to Loleini Tonga, and the couple has been raising three children. Tonga’s MySpace page identifies herself as “Mrs. C. Henry” and has a picture of her next to a person who appears to be Henry. She also has a post from Tuesday talking about buying wedding rings. A neighbor said Wednesday that the Tonga family owns the home where police say the incident began. Charlotte is home to his fiancee’s parents.

Henry was away from the team after breaking his left forearm during a win over Baltimore on Nov. 8. He had surgery and was placed on injured reserve.

He caught a touchdown pass in each of Cincinnati’s four preseason games. A thigh injury slowed him early in the season, and he had 12 catches for 236 yards — his 19.7-yard average per catch leads the team — when he broke his left arm during the win over Baltimore, ending his season.

When he showed up in the locker room for the first time since surgery to fix the fracture, Henry sounded confident he could get through his latest setback.

“It just comes with time, you know?” he said. “I learned to handle all situations, so I’ll be all right.”

Oprah Winfrey has sent The Ron Clark Academy some kind of stocking stuffer this Christmas: $1.5 million.

The southeast Atlanta school alerted Buzz moments ago that Winfrey sent the donation after learning the school was having trouble raising money, and said she hoped the contribution “would inspire others to follow her lead.”

In true RCA style, the school celebrated with an impromptu rally in the lobby, where shouts and laughter filled the room and happy tears flowed.

“We work so hard to provide scholarships for students of all academic backgrounds and to share our successful teaching methods with the world,” co-founder Kim Beardon said. “We are incredibly thankful for Ms. Winfrey’s support.”

Along with the check, Winfrey included a note praising the school for its work with students and with teachers from elsewhere.

“I hope my gift will inspire others to join in to support RCA, a place that’s not only uplifting students but also training teachers across the globe how to do the same for their students,” Winfrey said in her note, Buzz was told.

Winfrey, who has announced she’ll end her popular daytime show in 2011, has played Santa for the school before. Last December Ron Clark, received a card from her on Christmas Eve that contained a check for $365,000. The two met in 2001 when Clark was named as Disney’s American Teacher of the Year.

Clark has appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show to talk about his methods and about his book, The Essential 55. Proceeds from the book were used to start the private, nonprofit school that serves students from various socio-economic and academic backgrounds. RCA has an annual operating budget of $2.8 million and plans to expand the campus by adding a cafeteria, gym and performing arts theater, and relies on community support.

MV7 a St. Louis Ram?

Over the past couple of days, I’ve been listening to analyst & critics talk about the ‘long awaited’ return of the ‘Michael Vick of Old’. What do you expect, he’s been in prison for the past two years and has NOT touched a football since 2007. I NEVER doubted Vick’s ability to play the game again, especially after his return to Atlanta when he looked liked he did his rookie year in the league. So many doubters/haters out there are REALLY trying to bring this man down, but one thing they fail to realize, ‘HE’S BEEN TO JAIL’, can’t get NO worse than that. I truly believe in my heart that Mike has and will continue to redeem himself as a man FIRST and then as a professional athlete.

Now, to the JUICY stuff! Sources have been saying that MV7 will be a starter in St. Louis, not sure how true it is, but the Rams have nothing to lose (other than their season) to grab hold of this diamond in the rough! This to me would be great especially with Vick becoming more of a pocket passer and having Steven Jackson in the backfield. Talk about a 2-headed MONSTER, this would be the perfect combination.

I don’t know, the future holds the truth, but for now, what do you think? Good or bad move on the Rams side? GREAT for Vick!!!!
